Toning that tummy

I have had some great feedback from the last video, and some great questions so I will be answering them very soon. If you have any questions just comment bellow and I will get back to you asap.

This is the second part of the workout I used to loose my baby weight. Like I had said before if you are limited for time for any reason e.g a baby, work, shopping, or socializing  the workout can be split into these two different sections so you can just grab 10 minutes and do something that will for sure work. I got my tummy back to normal within 4 months of having a baby with these exercises. I will take some pictures no so you can see the real results.

I hope you enjoy and you get the time to give it a go.

Post pregnancy workout routine.

Hi guy’s yes it is finally here, alot of people have been asking me what I have been doing to loose all my baby weight!!! This is the first part. The routine I put together is very effective and I saw results very quickly and was back to my normal weight after just 4 months.

I was also asked when I found the time to fit in any training with a new baby! Well Leo was waking up about 4am, I fed him and put him back to bed, he would make a few chatty noises before he would fall completely asleep. So being the fabulous wife :-) I wouldn’t go back to bed until he was asleep so not to wake my husband (as he had to go to work). This was when I did the routine! It was a good time for me as I was already up and awake and this way I didn’t need to find the time during the day and could concentrate on Leo and the everyday running of the home.

This is the first part of what I was doing there is also some toning exercises to come, the workout can be split into these two sections depending on the time you have. Put aside about 20mins for your first routine this should be plenty of time for the first section and you should sit after and have a drink of water to replenish you body.

If you have just had a baby DO NOT do anything for at least two weeks due to the movement of your spine, it needs the time to return to it’s position first so not to cause permanent damage. Also only do what you feel you can to start with, you can build up the amount and the intensity over time. Remember your body has already been through a very dramatic experience and will be different from what you remember so get used to it again and let yourself settle back to being you.

I hope you all enjoy it it was only filmed six weeks after I had my baby so I’m not looking my best :-) was very tired.

What pushchair???

I found this very difficult as there are so many and they all sound great in theory. I decided that I wanted a travel system so I didn’t have to wake Leo every time he arrived somewhere so this was the first decision.

There are thousands, I looked and looked and got my husband and Alan who works with us into different pushchairs and their specs.I was out with Alan once and he nearly dragged me across a main road to see what type of pushchair a lady had.

I had chosen the maxi-cosi car seat as they are reviewed to be the best you can buy so anything that didn’t work with that was out, but still so many. Some of the travel systems are so ugly and others look like the baby will fall out when you go up a hill. I read review after review on the internet and asked women in the street what they had and what was it like. The only one that stood out beyond the rest that was the icandy, I have still never heard a bad thing about them. It folds and turns, the baby can face you or away on any of the attachments that come with it, there is the general seat ( that can lay right down flat), the carrycot, the car seat, the foot-muff, the matching bag, the fleece seat liner, the sun hood, the rain cover and you can change it from a 4 wheel to a 3 wheel if you go off road. the handle bars can be moved up and down so whatever your height it’s right and no excuses from the other half about pushing!!!

I went for the apple, because we are planning on having more children and I don’t want a big gap in between them. You can get an extra the converts it into a double pushchair, but not one of these that the child is almost on the floor ( I’d be worried about kicking them in the head as I walked). The pear also dose this however is much heavier and I didn’t want to be lifting it in and out the car if I was pregnant again or to have to ask a passer by to help! And the Cherry didn’t have the option to become a double buggy. Do your research and go to the shop and push them around and don’ forget the department stores have baby sections.

I’m so glad I went for this chair I love mine, they are one of the more expensive but I think you need to ask yourself what’s it worth to put you baby in a safe place and push a comfortable push chair, you must think of your health and your babies.

Good luck hunting the right one for you down, do feel embarrassed ask people how they find there’s and take them for a test drive. If you can take your man along with you as he will need to find it comfy too.  Be realistic in what you need from a pushchair if you are clear in your mind before you go looking it can save so much time.

Enjoy.

Vaccinations do you or don’t you?

We are encouraged to give our children all kinds of vaccinations, do they really work or do they cause more problems? I have decided not to give my son the vaccinations as there is so much medical research to show that they are in fact more harmful than good. Of course you have to make the decision that i right for you. We all want to do the best for our children so do look around at all the reports on them that you can.

What the doctors don’t automatically tell you is that you can have them done at anytime not just when they say you should have them!! also that GP’s get commission on them! So do take your time and see as much about them as you can.

Alot of the reports say that one of the main problems with the vaccinations is having to many to close together and that there should be atleast six month between them however we are told to just leave 4 weeks? They say to leave six months so that the immune system can fully recover, so how much dose it recover in just 4 weeks? Also the mixing of conditions so the vaccination can cover more than one illness in one go? surely mixing them together will make a new illness/condition? they also put all kinds of different chemicals and even live viruses with the vaccinations such as mercury, which is a poison! The amount of people contracting these viruses did decrease at the time that vaccinations were introduced and has continued to fall, however think about how people live now we have clean water, central heating, good hygiene, better quality food and better health care. I read a good report by Dr. Blaylock in

I was always lead to believe that if you caught meningitis then you would go blind, we have all heard these things but when I looked myself at the lasting symptoms of Meningitis this was not the case at all, now I’m not saying this couldn’t happen I don’t know what could ever  happen no one dose, however I will say don’t always believe what you are told go out and look for the research then make your own decision. Don’t forget you can go back to your GP at anytime and have the vaccinations!!

Vitamins and supplements can be taken to boost your immune system and encourage better health, so make you body stronger from the inside.

He’s finally here!!!!!

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven’t posted anything for a few weeks I have been very busy as I gave birth to my baby son Leo on 24th August!

Everything went fine and we are both well, he was born at 8.55am and weighed 6lbs 14. I know everyone tells you that becoming a mum is life changing but I don’t think you can really appreciate how much your life changes until it happens, I mean this in a good way of course as I’m loving it, would like a little more sleep at night but that will come with time.

I have to say there is so much that no one tells you about birth and newborns, however I’ll post about all things at a later date…..

Well done all,

Well done to all the adults who took their grading on Monday, the pace and atmosphere was great.

I am still waiting to have my baby now that he is 4 days late!!! I have gathered lots of tips to inducing labour which I am testing to see what’s going to work for me. So I will let you know after the birth. I just hope he’s not much longer.

Have a great day! :-)

Healthy pregnancy due to Kung Fu.

I had the first appointment from my health visitor the other day and she was surprised how healthy I was, how eassily I was still moving around and how I could still sit cross legged on the floor.

After going through all the forms she had to about our lives she asked how much Kung Fu I had been doing during my pregnancy and how often. She was surprised at the small amount I had been doing compared to how much I did before. Yet still it had, had such an effect on my mobility.

Before I got pregnant I was doing a little solo training every day, plus 2 classes per week and every now and then I would train some bits with Paul at home. My solo training would be my forms once slow and then once faster each, this would take around 10 minutes and then I would do an exercise routine that I had put together. This was a sir-kit of sit ups on the fit ball (straight and to the side) 2mins, to those of you who train at The Kung Fu Schools the route done in the class twice, then squats and on the way up I would kick forward ( this works best if someone is holding a pad for you to kick ). I will be using this routine after I have baby Leo in 4 weeks time!!!!!! So I will video it and pop it up on here so you can see exactly what I do. But bare with me as will be out of practice now. I will do one as soon as I can after the birth then one each month so you can see the effect it has and the speed it works.

While I have been pregnant I have really cut down, not meaning to cut down as much as I have I must admit, it happens to everyone I just got out the habit. I stopped the classes for the first 3 months as of course the pregnancy danger zone! After that I did one class a week all I had to do was make sure my training partner was aware I was pregnant. The only thing I have continued through my pregnancy is doing my solo training of my forms everyday. I did some training with Paul on our honeymoon, and he has shown and gone through me the Wing Chun Kuen form a couple of times (this I can’t wait to do fully). Since he came back from Hong Kong he has been concentrating on the pole and that is a real no no at the moment, but can’t wait to have a go!!!

So really I haven’t done much while being pregnant but it was noticeable to the health visitor that Kung Fu has helped make my pregnancy more healthy. She also thinks that it will make the birth easier too I do hope so we will have to see.

Look out for the videos of me getting back into shape after the birth, I will do a monthly video so you can really see the difference Kung Fu has to my body.

Preventing stretch marks !!!!!!!!!

I was asked today what I have been using to help prevent stretch marks? I looked at so many!!!! different lotions, potions, creams or oils?     What do you use?     No one wants stretch marks!!!……

We will never really know if they work or not as if you use one you may not have got them anyway even if you hadn’t used anything as not everyone gets them. Or you could only use it on half your belly but who would do that as you may get them one side and not the other and that would be really strange. Of course there is nothing wrong with stretch marks they are one of natures little things to remind us of what we have been through.

I kept seeing Bio Oil in all the magazines and it had been recommended to me so thought I’d give it a go. It is one of the most expensive, but I had the approach that I don’t mind paying if it will work, so I use this every morning after I get out the shower and rub it into just the areas that are prone to stretch marks. I drip it onto my tummy and rub it in all over the bump and around my sides then what is left on my hands I rub under and around the edges of my boobs. I don’t put much here any more as I found at the beginning of my pregnancy that it did give me loads and loads of spots so do be careful. I then use it on my thighs and bottom. I then use just baby oil for everywhere else as I don’t need to prevent stretch marks on my arms or feet and I’ve only just started my second bottle and am 7 1/2 months pregnant so I’ve managed to make it last really well. It goes into the skin nicely and I love the smell.

I also have been using at night something that was recommended to me, and I now use it for everything it’s fab I would recommend this to anyone as a moisturiser. Virgin Coconut Oil, I rub this all over before I go to bed as it dose take a little while to soak in but my skin has been great since I started using it. I was expecting it to be in a bottle and be like a normal liquid oil, however it is in a tub and is solid so I was unsure of how it would work but as soon as it touches your skin it starts to melt and is so easy to rub in. This oil is the most versatile one I’ve ever come across as it can be used for anything, it is totally pure and contains no preservatives or trans fats. It is resistant to high temperatures, which makes it ideal for cooking and baking as well as for spreading on toast ect, as a healthy alternative for butter. These are some of the suggestions the company mention. I have tried cooking with it and I have to say was very easy to use and gives a hint of coconut to your dinner. I like coconut so liked that however if you don’t like coconut then I wouldn’t recommend it for cooking. It is very cheep to I got 1500ml for just under £30 from ..http://www.coconutoilcompany.com/… I really like my coconut oil and will continue to use it as a moisturiser even after I have the baby.

I hope that helps you find a moisturiser…… coconut oil definitely my favorite.

Welcome to the women’s martial arts!!!!

I’m Lindsey Hawkes the Simo (Wife of Sifu) of  Sifu Paul Hawkes of The Kung Fu Schools. Thank you for visiting my blog site.

I will be blogging from a woman’s point of view about, martial arts, life as a Simo, events at our Kung Fu Schools (parties, fates, gradings, seminars) etc. I’m dyslexic so there will be spelling mistakes along the way however why should I let this hold me back.

I am seven months pregnant at the moment so will also be reporting on the many changes my body has been through and what is happening each week. I will let you all know how I find being a mum and all the trials we went through to find the right pushchair! Exercise while your pregnant is hard work so will be letting you all know what I have been doing in detail including any breaks I take.

Of course I want to show you  how you can still defend yourself (including if you’re pregnant) . I will do some videos on this with the help of my husband Master Paul Hawkes.

I will be posting links to shopping vouchers as these are always useful to everyone so the more that are out there the better.

For those of you that train at The Kung Fu School you will have heard about the “Lindseyisumz” they will also be available here. “Lindseyisumz” are my own explanations of what the Chinese name for the shape this is how I have remembered the system of Wing Chun Kung Fu. Not all of the instructors like them as they say they are “far to girly and nontraditional” however it helped me learn and has helped some of the students at the school and my job as an instructor is to help them learn the system.

I look forward to seeing your comments on the these things so will be posting very soon. I hope you have a great day.
